8 Ways Travelling Is Good For Your Health

Travelling is always an amazing experience. Whether you're embarking on a multi-country trip of a lifetime or you have planned a quick weekend away in your home state, every trip is memorable and special in it's own way. We create wonderful memories with our loved ones, try new foods, experience new cultures, and often gain the courage to try extreme activities (most people save their skydiving or bungee jumping experiences for when they are on holidays). But did you know, that travelling can also have HUGE benefits for your health? I'm serious! Even a trip as short as three days can significantly benefit your health and wellbeing.

So find your frequent flyer points and get booking because travelling can...

Island Life Part 2: Caye Caulker

Palm trees, palm trees everywhere. Caye Caulker is a perfect slice of island paradise, found just off the coast of Belize in the Caribbean Ocean. The baby sister to it's larger neighbour, Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker is known for it's white sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and that island life vibe that everyone is eternally searching for. It's the kinda island where time literally runs slower, shoes are definitely optional and the local dogs are not stray, but rather community dogs with many welcoming homes of the locals.

Drone Class: Perfecting Aerial Photography For Beginners

As two people who have some of the most expensive hobbies going round, we really could have done with one that didn't involve expensive equipment, regular upgrades or heaps of flights. Unfortunately we have not succeeded at all. We jumped on the new photography must-have and bought ourselves a drone! After seeing hundreds (maybe thousands) of amazing aerial photos on Instagram there was no question when it came to what I wanted for my birthday; a drone please!

Where You'd Rather Be: Makanda By The Sea

After a few days of high adventure in La Fortuna and kicking back in our jungle treehouse it was onto our next destination, Manuel Antonio, just south of Quepos on the Pacific Coast. We were ready for some beaches, relaxing and focusing on our main goal: spotting a mysterious sloth in the wild. The accommodation I had booked in Manuel Antonio was what I was looking forward to most. Hotel Makanda by the Sea, an adults only retreat, hidden in the rainforest and boasting an infinity pool that overlooked the Pacific Ocean.

Cenote Hopping Around Tulum

One of the absolute best and most unique things about Mexico has to be the cenotes that can be found all thoughout the country, particularly along the Riviera Maya on the east coast. A cenote is a natural pit or sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone that exposes the crystal clear water underneath. The sinkholes are the perfect place to cool down and enjoy the long summer days, and if you're lucky you might even get some of the smaller ones all to yourself. On our last trip to Mexico we visited Ik-Kil Cenote, found near Chichen Itza, and it was one of our favourite days. So this time around, we dedicated a whole day to visiting local cenotes around Tulum.

Island Sunsets: Relaxing 101

I'm definitely not going to pretend that I am a good person to talk to about relaxing. If you've been reading for a while you will know that relaxing is not something that I am very good at or enjoy doing. I am normally go go go go go on holidays, trying to see and do as much as I can. But when we arrived on Isla Mujeres, stop number three on our honeymoon, we found ourselves on an island with not a lot to do, and as island life goes the best thing to do is kick back, relax and enjoy the sunshine. It was definitely the first time I felt like I was relaxing, with all of the stress of having a perfect wedding starting to leave, and that sunshine starting to soak in. So if you think you're highly strung like me, here are some tips to relaxing for non-relaxers!

Whale Watching in Cabo San Lucas

What an adventure whale watching is!! It was something that I had never seriously thought of - it wasn't something that I planned trips around, monitored the seasonality of or planned for, it was just a happy accident. It was only when we arrived at Los Cabos airport and someone gave us a flyer and told us it was whale season that we thought why not!! It turns out, from mid-January to mid-March is actually the best time for whale watching in Cabo San Lucas, when humpback whales and gray whales often get really close to the bay and the coastline. And we were visiting in February, what a fluke.

Chasing Waterfalls in Bosnia

The water is absolutely freezing, but the scenery and crashing sounds of the waves makes it all worth it. Only a short ten-ish minute drive over the Bosnian boarder from Croatia is where you will find Kravice Falls. Often overlooked due to the enormity of Plitvice National Park and Krka National Park across the boarder, it is easy to understand why people forget to look for waterfalls in Bosnia & Herzegovina. But it's a silly error to make. Kravice Falls offers everything you could ask for when looking for the perfect Eastern European waterfall, just without the bus loads of people.

The Blue Lagoon, Comino

In between the mainland of Malta and the island of Gozo you can find the tiny island of Comino. Only 3.5 square kilometres, the island is car-free and pretty much uninhibited with only one hotel and that's about all. Apart from being a paradise for snorkelers, divers and windsurfers, the main reason to visit Comino is to swim in it's beautiful Blue Lagoon. By far one of the best beaches in Malta and home to the most crystal clear water I have even seen or swam in, the Blue Lagoon is an absolute can't miss for anyone visiting Malta.

15 Iconic Things To Do In London

Okay, let's get back to the regular travel posts and our trip to Europe last year. This is quickly getting further and further away from us, and before we know it we're going to be on our honeymoon, so I really want to share some more of our Europe trip with everyone. From Santorini we flew over to London for a few days. Typical London just can't bring the summer heat like the rest of Europe, so it was back to jeans and jumpers just like we never left Melbourne! But we did find some sunny moments amongst all the clouds. Here's a quick guide to 15 iconic things you can't miss when you visit London for the first time.

Exploring The Cinque Terre

The Cinque Terre is one of those beautiful parts of the Italian Coastline that dreams are made of. Five tiny fishing villages made up of cute colourful houses tumbling down the rocky hills right to the ocean filled with fishing boats. The surrounding hills are full of olive groves and vineyards, offering authentic local Italian produce. Located in the Liguria region of Italy, making up part of the Italian Riviera and just west to the city of La Spezia, the five towns of the Cinque Terre make up a National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Riomaggiore and Manarola are connected by a beautiful 12km hiking trail, which offers stunning views over each of the five villages, as well as the Italian Riviera and the ocean and is definitely the best way to explore the region. If you're planning your trip to this picture perfect pocket of Italy here is your complete guide.

A Guide To Byron Bay

Cheer up, slow down, chillout. The sign on Ewingsdale Road leading into Byron Bay sums up the vibe perfectly. The famous beach town holds a reputation completely unique to any other in Australia. Whilst it's well known for its beautiful coastline, perfect weather, surf breaks and close proximity to the hinterland, it's the distinctive barefooted, colourful gypsy vibes that makes it such a special place. The centre of town can be found only a block away from the beach and the streets are littered with spray painted combie vans, tie dye t-shirts and a picture of alternate lifestyles. Let's just say, it's a place where a hula hooper would fit right in and that's what makes it so special. If you're heading to Byron Bay for the first time here's everything you need to know.

A Quick Guide To Oia

Oia (pronounced I-a) is a picture perfect town found at the north of Santorini Island famous for it's epic sunsets, delicious seafood and blue-domed buildings that break up the white painted buildings all over the cliff side. A destination for locals, tourists and even cruise ship passengers, people flock into Oia in the hopes of experiencing the perfect European sunset. But there is so much more to Oia than the sunsets (although they are spectacular)!

Dune Bashing In The Arabian Desert

The number one, absolutely can't miss adventure experience in Dubai is the Sundowner Dune Dinner Safari through the Arabian Desert. An afternoon of 4x4 driving through the sand dunes as the sun sets, followed by an authentic Middle Eastern dinner experience in a traditional Bedouin style camp. This is an experience like no other and must do when visiting Dubai.

Finn's Beach Club, Uluwatu

For the most exclusively relaxing day in Bali you need to visit Finn's Beach Club in Uluwatu. The white sand beaches and clear blue water of the Indian Ocean are hidden away by tall cliff faces, giving you the feeling of swimming in the most private beach on Bali Island. It was absolutely beautiful and the best way to end our trip to Indonesia.

Fushimi Inari-Taisha Temple

One of the most visited attractions in Kyoto is Fushimi Inari-Taisha, the shrine famous for it's thousands of tightly placed torii gates set along it's beautiful hiking trails around the shrine grounds. The trails lead into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 23 meters and belongs to the shrine grounds.  To visitors of Japan the shrine is a must see for it's unique structures and rich heritage, but to the locals of Kyoto, Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社, Fushimi Inari Taisha) is a very important Shinto Shrine.

The Sacred Cenote Ik'Kil

Ik'Kil Cenote was beyond amazing. It was spectacularly breathtaking and more beautiful in real life than any picture I had ever seen. I feel like there aren't accurate words to describe the unbelievable natural beauty of this place. Climb to the top of the limestone staircase and jump into the refreshing water of the cenote. Floating around the cenote on my back, and looking up to the open sky was one of the most peaceful and reflective moments I have ever had. I really took a moment to take in where I was and how lucky I was to be in this sacred place.

Melbourne Hot Air Ballooning

A couple of weeks ago it was my 24th birthday and it had the best start to my 24th year that I could imagine. Thom had an awesome idea for a present, hot air ballooning over Melbourne's CBD! It's something we had both been talking about for ages, but it's just so expensive that we have always had too many other things going on. I mean, you could fly three people to Bali and back for the price of these hot air balloon rides! But it was so worth it! We got up super early - about 4am to drive into the city and meet the tour guides at the Sofitel on Collins. We were then driven about 20 minutes to Moorabbin, which would be our take off place.

I'll be honest, I was nervous about getting in a hot air balloon. I thought surely it wouldn't feel secure and I would feel like I was about to drop out of the sky at any moment. But I was pleasantly surprised. The basket was cushioned the whole way around, so it was very comfortable to lean on and made me feel so safe. It was also a bit taller than I expected, which was very comforting. The whole trip was amazing. Take-off was effortless and so light you couldn't even feel that you were moving.
